You are committed now for a trip. Since you posted this in the trip reports, there is no turning back now.

2 weeks is a long time and I don't think you have enough free nights to pull this off? Check with Harrah's on line. I have never played with my card ever at the Reno property, but when I put in my card number I get 5 free nights during the week. I have no USPS offers from them, but I guess they would be happy if I showed up.

If things get bad, make use of that 15 person van. Drive up and down So. Virginia Street with a sign advertising dry sleeping for $5. You should be able to raise at least $50.........be sure to air out the van after one of those nights. You could even advertise dry sleeping plus breakfast for $7. Give those that go for the upgrade a pop tart in the morning. You will still be money ahead.

He had a good instructor, Mammoth gambler !

Swede: I've had a Harrah's card for ever and NEVER get a USPS mailer from them. After logging into my "total rewards" account, I see I've have "220 points", some YEARLY mostly small losses on my account every year since 2011 (as far back as they go). Unlike Legacy, TR profit & loss statements do NOT show "Coin IN', Coin out" like at Silver Legacy or some others. "YOU HAVE NO CURRENT OFFERS"

And spdmrcht: I heard that Siri's shooting was between two Siri's employees....but never heard another word. And I'll never live up to Mammoth Gambler's achievements. Special atta boy for him turning me onto GSR. I get regular room offers from them with not much more play than I give Harrah's.

Crashing in the van is my "Fall Back" position and I seem to "Fall Back " more frequently as I get older. I have actually have pulled into a casino parking lot after midnight where I had a slam dunk comp room available but with no reservation. Easier just to crash in the back than check in. That reminds me...I need to clean up the interior in the next 4 weeks.

Not at all, JD, the song was offered entirely for it's humorous value.

As for the Blackjack absurdities, it last seemed as though each casino was a hodgepodge of rule variations - about half the tables were on that 6:5 nonsense, but that attribute plus all other rules were generally on display on that little placard that sits on the table near the dealer - there should be no tipping needed to discern this info!

And while specifics are welcome, I realize how much such data-mining can interfere with one's gamboling and gambling, so please, ensure that fun remains your first priority, with gaming details acquired as available. Thanks!

BC Dave: No worries, no offense taken. In fact it kinda reminded me of many decades past. Any of those guys still alive? The Kinks (1965 "Set me Free) remind me of high school days, water skiing on the river (and drinking a LOT more beer than I can do now).

Stan: I will try to check but I THINK not only does each casino have different BJ rules, but each TABLE within the casino changes rules according to demand.

I am reminded of the Cal Neva many years ago. There was always a double zero Roulette Wheel in action but on event weekends, they wheeled out a portable wheel to keep up with demand. THAT wheel was an old, SINGLE ZERO wheel which cuts the house edge in HALF ! I don't play Roulette but I'll bet everyone here can guess which layout had more action. YUP.... the double zero wheel that peeps were used to. Go Figure.

My guess is when the tables get crowded, the limits go up and the rules get worse. All they have to do is swap out that little placard with print too small to read from the aisle.

Now as to Harrah's... I don;t know what I did to piss them off but I can guess. Several years ago I got a three night comp at Harveys. After one night, I got an emergency call and had to leave after one night of a three night reservation. It was my last invite. I'll wager they looked at no play on night two & three and scratched me forever. Maybe I need to make a big buy in on the craps table to buy their love again.

And spdmrcht: I'm pretty sure the shooter and the victim of the Siri shooting were both employees at Siri's. I casually know one of the Security Guards and will find out for sure.

Anyone else? I still wanna hear how the Biker, Hair Band, Boot Scootin crowd gets along at Sparks Nugget. But I do NOT intend to find out first hand. Third party stories are usually better, anyway.

Has anyone else done the flight simulator at Boomtown's arcade?

Good start on all the help with this EPIC TR. What a team !

The Kink's mastermind, Ray Davies and his brother and fellow band member Dave are doing well. Ray wrote a stage musical entitled Sunny Afternoon which has been a hit in London for the last two years. It's based on - you guessed it - The history of the Kinks and their music.

We now return you to page 2 of JD's trip report from the future.

I don't think I was very clear on the checking for free rooms at Harrah's Reno. Maybe you tried this, but what you do is sign in to your TR account. Then instead of checking for offers, you go back and plug in some dates for a stay. You might be surprised to see "comp" for dates. Check for weekdays first. I tried that one time and got 5 free nights at Harrah's Laughlin for a buddy while I stayed up the river.

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner, but I just returned from a two night stay at Carson City and Minden. I had an offer for a free hot dog at the Carson Nugget and since I have not had a hot dog in a long time, I thought I would take them up on their offer. It was a very good hot dog, but it costs me $40 on the machines while I was munching on the dog.

Last night I was sitting at the bar and struck up a conversation with a couple and the man told me he was Pappy Smith's (Harold's Club) grandson. He said he had a lot of the stuff from Harold's Club and was going to send me some pictures of what he had. How cool is that?

And the Harold's club guy?? TOO cool for school. When I was maybe 6 or seven, my parents checked my sis and I into the baby sitting theater in Douglas Alley between Harrah's & Harold's Club. Ask him what happened to the gun collection? THAT collection & the stories led me to collecting my own set of old West replicas. The many one armed cowboy & Indian slots made a lasting memory. Ask him if he has any big jackets with the "HAROLD'S CLUB or BUST" covered wagon on the back. And PM his e mail addy to me.... tell him I'll by him a drink at the Prima Donna.

Wow! Running into a direct descendant of the Harold's Club Smith family is ultra cool. I'll buy him a drink at the Silver Dollar Bar! Hope you're able to share those pics with us.

You must really be on the bad side of Harrah's. I am surprised you did not get any free offers.

You can usually get rooms for $30 at the Sands during the week if your offers run out. How about Gold Dust West? They have a small motel right next door and I am thinking it has to be cheap. Do you have a Gold Dust West players card? They have a good promotion for a new card sign up.

Yes that was really a pleasant surprise to meet the grandson of Pappy. He said he had some of those wagon wheel chairs and some of the chairs with guns on the back side. Speaking of the gun collection, he said they were all sold off and are now scattered everywhere. He also told me he never met his grandfather. He was born right after Pappy died.

No corespondent from him yet. Sad Sad I am thinking of how many promises have been made at a bar that never get fulfilled?

I told him it was a great pleasure to shake hands with the grandson of Pappy Smith. I told him he was shaking the hand (mine) that shook the hand of Richard Nixon (true)........I don't think he was impressed.

PostPosted: Sep Fri 02, 2016 2:42 pm    Post subject: Sept. MAIL OFFERS Reply with quote

Whooo Hoo! It is now September and the casinos that have their act together don't wait until October to USPS mail their October offers.

One of the things I hated about the Siena was after a week or ten days in Reno, I'd open my mail box at home and find offers I could have used.

So AGAIN, thanks to Mammoth Gambler that re introduced me to Ballys/MGM Grand/Reno Hilton....GSR now has sent me their OCTOBER OFFERS (adding to the Sept offers already received).

$ 25 free play, BOGO Buffets, 2 comped nights midweek, point multiplier sure things and multiplier CHANCES, and a few other perks.

One of my previous TRs was titled "JD's Parlay Offers". Looks like I need to do another spread sheet to see how to maximize my town tours.

OH... and I think my GSR play is NOT as heavy as I've given Harrah's that ...well, that I've previously documented. Spdmrct and Swede have offered a few ideas of how I might get back in the heart again at H.

We'll see.

Thanks again, Mammoth. I owe ya. Hey John...can I buy you a GSR Buffet... or TWO ? On me.

PostPosted: Sep Mon 05, 2016 7:37 pm    Post subject: Pimp my Ride Reply with quote

In the spirit of MY trip reports...which are TEAM efforts, I was kinda wishing someone had some ideas of how to squeeze my offers into a seamless, two week long couch surfing epoch. I hate posting MY comments back to back, so I offer everyone their opportunity to suggest and critique...even "HI, Jack" this trip report. Events: Oct. 1= VC Outhouse races. Oct 2 =Yelp Oktoberfest Oct . 7 & 8 Eldo's Italian Festival.

So get out your spreadsheets and let's hear YOUR suggestions. And keep in mind, I gamble....meaning I try not to commit my credit card unless I KNOW I will be there. It USUALLY works.

Arriving Sunday afternoon, Sept 25 just as the bikers get outta town.
Departing Oct 9 ? (15 nights?) depending on money.

Comp & Discounts (?) Offers:

Atlantis: FREE: Sept 25, OR 27 & 28 Oct 5,6 (requires one week between)
Other weeknights $ 79-$99 & weekends $ 159 & $ 169

GSR 2 free nts Su-Thurs Sep 6-29 AND 2 free nts Oct 2-31

Boomtown: 3 free nts (includes weekends) Sep1- Oct 2

Sands: 2 free nts Su-Thurs Sep 1-Oct 1 (one week between comp stays) and MAYBE Friday, Oct 7 for $ 60.

I think I have it all worked out EXCEPT two nights...Oct 7 & 8 (the nights of Italian Festival) and THOSE are very high at downtown. Notice NO Silver Legacy, ELDO or Harrah's... which MIGHT be negotiable after a little action.

So "Parlay my offers" you sport book betters. And by "better" I mean better than me.

Anyone have three years of law school or two weeks accounting class?

Feel free to jump in,

Dang, that's some hifalutin spreadsheetin', there...I never really got a chance to do 'comps', so my input will be along the lines of zip, zero, nada - but I do love hearing about your carousing, so I'll continue to egg you on...

PostPosted: Sep Tue 06, 2016 6:35 pm    Post subject: COMPS Reply with quote

I cannot figure it out myself, Stan. I get comps I really don't deserve and yet some casinos I've given HEAVY play going back YEARS (Harrahs) ...never even send me a Birthday card. My level of play doesn't really deserve room offers from GSR, and they seem to LOVE me. Maybe they noted Mammoth Gambler introduced us.

(Stop me if you've heard this before)
And I've given what I THINK is a huge amount of play to Silver Legacy and they I get a comped bowl of tomato soup with a clam in it.... NO.... TWO BOWLS....John got one.

I just checked my SL play :
2013
CI: $ 1,536.50
CO: $ 1,398.00
Loss$ 138.50
2014
CI: $ 12,552.25
CO: $ 12,999.55
WIN$ 447.30
2015
CI: $ 13,821.01
CO: $15,381.00
WIN:$ 1,5559.99
And significant play in MARCH 2016 so far

And poor Boomtown has comped me plenty when I've played 10% as much as SL. Too bad they're 7 miles out of town.

Stay tuned here and again... feel free to chime in. But have a few drinks first.
