The Gazette-Journal has published a set of 109 photos of things we'll never see in Reno again.

Link.

Among my faves are shots of Hello Hollywood Hello at MGM, the Glory Hole, the Turf Club, and Old Reno.

I remember most of those places. I had forgot about Lancer's up on Mt. Rose Highway. My family and my Reno relatives used to go there for a birthday or other special occasion. Great Views of the Reno area. The old baseball field brought back memories too. I loved the sign advertising "Two stiffs pumping gas" in Lovelock. Those signs were everywhere along I-80.

They left out one picture.......all the money I left at the casinos over the years.

Although it's pretty much a confession of getting older, I'm a big fan of pictures of Reno from way back when. I liked, pretty much, the same pics you mentioned - in particular the MGM and Hello Hollywood Hello ones. In 1985 I first laid eyes on the MGM and was awestruck by it's size. I saw the show that same trip .... Awestruck again!

Thanks for the trip down memory lane Shooty. I enjoyed a lot of those photos. I too miss Old Reno. I also miss Fitzgeralds and Mr. O'Lucky welcoming me into the Fitz. I spent many hours playing slots there, especially up on the second floor where I also enjoyed going to Lucky Forest.

I also miss the Comstock which I didn't see pictured. I loved playing their slots with the miners and pickaxes on the reels!

I miss the Comstock as much as any long-gone place.

Back in the late 80s when I was poor, I'd find $100, take a free bus from Sacramento to Reno for a couple nights, stay up the first night, then get a cheap motel room for the second night, usually a Sunday. Being a block off Virginia, Comstock used to be really generous with gambling coupons, and also used to have a free happy hour buffet near the upstairs bar. I'd exploit coupons, stuff myself with bad chicken wings and worse egg rolls, drink myself silly on comped beers, and love every minute of it.

Nostalgia, nostalgia. Love it Shooty! Thank you for the Comstock photo and your story. Enjoyed them both. I like stories from people that get enjoyment in Reno from the simplest of things.

I first went to Reno in the early 1990's and have been in love ever since. Don't need glitz, glamour or bling. Just give me a nice clean room, food, drinks and slots, and I'm a happy girl.

I vaguely remember my first night ever in Reno. Definitely had beginner's luck and won $625.00 on a slot machine at Harrah's within the first few hours and have been hooked ever since (cue the fishing pole reeling in sound). And of course I mistakenly thought every trip to Reno after that would be a winning one! Ha ha! I was young and in my early 20's then so didn't know any better. Regardless, I too have so many memories of Reno and places I miss. I also miss Cafe Andreotti in Harrah's which was my favorite restaurant. I loved sitting in there having dinner, enjoying the accordion player, and watching the lights of Cal Neva across the way.

I'm loyal to the Silver Legacy now but it's hard to believe I've been going to Reno since before that place even existed.

So many good times at numerous places in Reno over the years. And though things have changed, there are always more memories to be made! In 5 more weeks I'll be making more!

My first visit to Reno was in 1990 so I could go on and on about "Old Reno" as far as 25 years ago and the changes that have occured so I wanted to chime in.

I had never gone to the Comstock until I found out a friend of mine from the Bay Area told me that his parents were "High Rollers" at Comstock and we shold go up the when they were there sometime. We attended a dinner once that was all about wild game and it was really cool! I ended up staying there once after that but didnt care for the hotel compared to other places.

I could go on and on about other places and I am sure I have forgotten about some places as well.
