I have been unable to visit Reno for over a year due to some serious health issues. However, since I am between treatments my wife and I booked the Peppermill for Friday and Saturday. My wife took Friday off work, so we left Friday morning. Our first stop was the Gold Ranch for a cold drink and the great breakfast deal of two pancakes, two sausage and two eggs for $3.99... what a deal. We stopped by to say hello to some of my Reno relatives. My cousin bought a new place in the southeast part of town way up the hill. Wow, what a view of Reno he gets living up in the hills.

Later in the afternoon we stopped to play at Atlantis. They have some great video poker here, although our luck was not so good. I thought I would swipe my card to see if any offers might come through. It said I had won $75 in free play. Where did that come from? We had some great sushi up in the oyster bar. Yum.

It was getting very late and we made it to the Peppermill expecting a huge check in line on a Friday night, but there was no wait at all. I made the mistake of telling the check in guy that I was not picky, so he gave us a room on the third floor with a view of a roof ten feet away......no view at all! We spent all day Saturday playing the machines with mixed results. When I swiped my card I found they had wiped out all my comps that had been left from previous trips. I had also been downgraded to red level with zero points. We had a very nice dinner at Romanza. This place never disappoints.

Well that is about it. I decided to take the scenic route home driving south on 395 through Carson City down to Minden and then Hwy 88 south to home. I had bought a new car less than a year ago that got great gas mileage. It uses about 1/3 of the fuel my large 4WD truck gets.....more money to gamble away!

Till next time---

I was down that road a few years ago with very serious health issues so I can relate to that. It took me 18 months to get my good health restored. Going through serious health issues definitely gives you a different perspective on life and priorities.

So glad you could take a weekend trip to Reno and have some fun! Nice to get $75 in free play that you weren't expecting! I really should stay at the Peppermill some time just to shake things up.

Best wishes to you CaSwede for your treatments and hopeful return to good health. Keep those spirits up!

I too, just love that oyster bar. I prefer scoring one of the few bar tops at the bar (and you can eat at the machine).

It's a great place to watch the weather roll in and not in a dark casino.

ATlantis policy is as long as you play any amount on your card, they roll over your comp points to stay good for another year like cell phone rollover minutes. Pepper mill purges any comp points at one year (I too was bumped back down to a red card last time).

Thanks for the enjoyable little report Swede! I wish I were closer to Reno and could do the drive in a few hours rather than a marathon from the great white north. The Atlantis does have a lot of video poker, doesn't it? Did you find lots of full pay scales? I guess I have been absent from the Peppermill too long - I didn't know there was a red card. I think they started at bronze the last time I was there.

Best of luck with your health.

Sorry to hear about the health issues, but it sounds like you got just what the doctor ordered!

Good lesson for all of us: never tell a check-in employee at a hotel that you're "not picky", whether or not you are!

Thanks for the write-up!

Thanks for the feedback. Stan it is funny about the "view" room. I was exiting my room when my next door neighbor was leaving his at the same time. He asked what I thought of our view from the room. I told him that I made the mistake of telling the check in guy that I was not picky. He kind of chuckled and said he told them the same thing. I guess you get what you ask for.

Yes, after reading about CaSwede's "view" room, just reiterates for me that I will continue to be "picky" about my room at Silver Legacy and will continue to ask for higher floor, not being next to elevator banks, and not being next to ice and vending machines (but then I ask for these things in every hotel I stay at). I figure I spend the time and money, and fly 500+ miles to get there I want to be happy with my room.
