June 30, 2015 will be the last day we will be able to lose our money at the Siena Hotel and ... well, just hotel. If you have free play and/or comps, now is the time to trade them in on whatever you trade them in on. I liked playing there because it is/was normally quiet. Hmmm, cause and effect?

Strangely enough, their website makes no mention of this new development. I got the information from a Siena cashier, who will be looking for a job soon.

It mentioned it in the mailer I got for June (which I threw away after reading). I think it was a short paragraph about how all good things must come to an end.

I did think it was a little weird that they still had a calendar full of multiple-points days up until the end of the month.

Would it be rude to show up the last day and wander around and say, "I'll buy that half bottle of Jack for $ 5."

"Will you sell me that craps table for $24? Cash?"
"I'll give you $ 20 for $ 1000 worth of chips"
"How much for a hundred decks of Cards with the Siena logo?"

"What do ya want for that booth that blows the money around?"
"Can I have a FOUR Diamond club card NOW?" "How about 100 blanks?"

John: Could you make up some "Visit Reno" job applications to hand out to the cocktail waitresses?"

"I need to find my Siena W-2 Gs....I have them around here somewhere...."

I feel bad for those gaming related employees. This is a tough market for job hunting. Unfortunately, I can't offer them employment at Visitreno.com unless they are good at cleaning bird cages and don't expect tips. Or health insurance. Or paid vacations. Or wages.

I was just thinking it'd be a good way to get phone numbers.

From 17 Jun RGJ:

Another clue has emerged in the upcoming change of ownership at the Siena Hotel Spa Casino in downtown Reno.

Current owner Grand Siena LLC has not disclosed buyer or price details of the sale first announced in early May.

But Bethesda, Md.-based Urgo Hotels & Resorts, which operates 31 small and mid-sized lodges, is advertising on the online job site Simply Hired for a director of sales and marketing "to join our growing company in Reno, Nevada."

The simplyhired.com advertisement states, "The 214-room Siena Hotel and Spa, located in downtown Reno, will join our family of managed hotels July 1, 2015. The hotel will begin an extensive renovation this summer, with plans to convert to an upscale branded, non-gaming hotel in 2016. Plans for the renovation include 15,000 sq feet of premier meeting and function space, including an 8,750 sq foot ballroom, a full-service Spa, and a modern restaurant and bar featuring regional cuisine and spirits."

Urgo's properties include such hotel brands as Marriott, Hilton, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hyatt, Westin, Sheraton, Renaissance. The largest is the 300-room Hilton Garden Inn in Washington, D.C.

Over the Siena's 14-year history, the Tuscany-themed resort has struggled in the site of the old Holiday Hotel Casino on the south banks of the Truckee River between Center and Lake streets.

On May 4, Grand Siena LLC announced an agreement to sell the eight-story property for an undisclosed price to an unidentified buyer in a deal set to close "sometime this summer."

Since the announcement, speculation has grown on details of the new owner beyond what the initial statement by Grand Siena LLC described as an "internationally recognized hotel and resort brand."

In a May 1 post on the Downtown Reno Makeover website that covers development in Reno, author Mike Van Houten said "unnamed sources" tell him the buyer is Fernando Leal, well known in the Reno-Sparks area as the developer of the Montage downtown and CommRow, now the Whitney Peak Hotel, and the Siena property will reopen "most likely" without the casino.

Additionally, a business license has been filed in the Nevada Secretary of State's Office for "Hotel Magari, LLC," a domestic limited-liability company, and lists Fernando Leal of Reno as noncommercial registered agent and Leal and Michael Santullo of Palo Alto, Calif., identified on his LinkedIn page as a start-up adviser and real estate investor, as Hotel Magari LLC managers.

Leal has declined comment and could not be reached Wednesday.

But he has voiced interest in the Siena sale online, saying in a Twitter post, "Reno is a changing" above a photo of the May 5 RGJ story headlined "Reno's Siena casino sold." He also shared a link to the Downtown Makeover story.
