We stayed a week in LV and flew to Reno last Saturday morning on the 10AM flight which was more than half empty. Took the CC shuttle to a $56 Saturday room at CC in the sky tower which we thought was great. Ate our first Awful Awful with vanilla shakes. Wandered through downtown.
Saturday morning we checked out at noon, wheeled our carry-ons down to Harrah's and checked in no problems. Spent 45 minutes looking through every cubbyhole in the Harrah's Reno maze for the Red Hot Genies, asked a cocktail girl who informed us that they are permanently GONE. She said many people are asking for them. Later, when I hit a $350 quarter Blazing Seven progressive, a tall Asian manager came to authorize the payout and he confirmed the Genies are gone permanently. Crying or Very sad
We paid $25 a night for 2 nights at Harrah's with a $20 food credit which we used at the totally fantastic steakhouse. So the total cost was $15 a night with NO resort fee which I think is cutting it as close to the bone as you can get. I advise checking Harrah's Reno rates if you are going to Reno without a room comp. They have a big place to fill and their midweek prices are cheap as dirt.
Went to Sterling buffet at the SL for Sunday champagne brunch for $35 which we found the highest quality. I had six lamb chops!
Took a quick bus trip to Pmill and the Lost Continent. I may be one of the few who is disappointed with the "de-Neoning" at the Pmill.
Tuesday morning had a second Awful Awful at 11AM with chocolate shakes this time before we took the noon shuttle at Harrah's back to the airport for the long flight east.
We hit a $1500 plus Laughing Blazing Seven dollar progressive at the SL, the $375 quarter Blazing Seven at Harrah's and $200 on 3 rams at the 90 cent penny Nevadan progressive at the Cal-Neva. Otherwise we took a bath but ended up ahead $500 not including food.

Dang, sorry to hear the Genies are gone - I never even got to play them!!! Harrah's often does that with fun machines, but those cheap yet decent rooms keep pulling me back.

Speaking of, The Dog and I hit Harrah's Southern California (formerly Harrah's Rincon) - absolutely lost our asses there, but the property was nice. No free cocktails, supposedly per California law or some such shit. Not that free cocktails would have made us feel any better about the ass-beating though...

We'll probably shoot for a Reno run come spring as we're now relocating to San Diego at Christmas!!!

Hi melbedewy,

Congrats on all of your Blazing Sevens (and Rams!) hits, and thanks for the heads up regarding the Red Hot Genies...they'll be missed for sure. Glad I got the opportunity to get at least one progressive jackpot off of them during my time there.

I hadn't heard of the de-neoning of the Peppermill, but if that's the case, add me to the "disappointed" group!

Lily - great seeing you and congrats on the relocation!

I made the tour down Virginia Last sunday and stopped at the
Peppermill, My take on it was they have really cleaned and opened
up the casino. Some of the neoning is gone, not near as
gaudie, as it was. I think some of the Mirrors are gone also,
which opens it up so you can tell where your at.

I think I speak for majority of long term Peppermill fans when I say," Bring back our neon! I suppose it was expensive to take down all that neon and it would be a lot more expensive to re-neonize it, but that crazy glitzy neon is what gave the Peppermill it's unique identity -and people liked it! The Peppermill seems to be trying to reinvent itself al la Ceasers palace. And that motif has been over-done. Who really needs to feel they're gambling with Roman Emporers or with Zeus and Aphrodite watching over them? To be fair, there's still some neon - just done in a more subtle way.
