Left home at 5am on the 22nd, had to stop at the Mini mart at
the Jackson casino on hwy 88 to Rest my eyes from all the glaring
headlight, man they are bad on the newer cars. Got to Harrahs
Tahoe at 9am. Checked into the room, it was ready and the wife
was very happy with it, had 2 full baths. Didn't hurt my feeling ether.
We went down and Reg. for the slot tourn which is only one round,
so you have to do very good the first time, or go home. We didn't!
Went over to Harveys and got my Keno ticket. Played some VP and
slots then hit one of my keno tickets, only $200. sorry MG I know i'm
a light weight? But got quads on a vp machine for another $200.
Next am. went out on the street to some of the shops, the wind
was howling. On the way back it started snowing and didn't stop
till the late night.

Fri am was bright and sunny and covered with snow, we loaded up
at 9am and headed to Reno on 50. nice drive. Coming in on mills
st. the helo was not on the pad at Renown, usely means bad news for someone.
Checked right in a Harrahs, Then went down and got my keno
tickets from Cal neva, Eldo, and swiped our cards. The wife wanted to
see the Ice show at the Eldo so got tickets for that for sat pm. we went
looking a pawn shops for a Piccolo for the Grand-kid. Found one across
from Eldo. Told them if we did good at the casino we'd be back.
Sat am. went down to the keno tourn entered my tickets. at 1pm they
had the start of the 77yr aniver. of Harrahs party, we swiped our cards
and at 2pm I was up $660 in the tourn. They had a drawing for $7700
at 7pm the same time the Ice show started so i took the wife over to
the show and we got seated and I went back to Harrahs for the drawing.
Damned if I didn't get drawn and picked the $450 cash card. Went back
to the ice show and the wife wasn't as mad when she heard that news.LOL.
So Sunday we got the kid the Piccolo at a 50% discount off of the sticker price, and we headed home via CVI
in Minden for breakfast. Was a great 5 day Trip.

Good TR!! Thanks for sharing.

You must have seen one of the last ice skating shows of this year's run. It has been replaced at the Eldo with "Ring of Fire," a tribute to Johnny Cash. I haven't seen it or read any first person reviews, but the press release I saw made it sound pretty interesting. Nearly 40 Johnny Cash songs, 4 different "Johnny Cash" singers, presented as 4 phases of his career -- the early unknown years; at the top; the fall into the black years; and, finally, the comeback (the Eldo web site describes 3 couples, but maybe there's a fourth solo setting). Sounds sort of like "Jersey Boys" for the Country Western market, although I think his career transcended its original market and became a rock and pop success as well. We're not country fans but we first saw him in about 1970, kind of on the premise that if Bob Dylan liked him he couldn't be all that bad. We've been Johnny Cash fans ever since. We'll be going to this show unless some really bad reviews come out. There's an ad for the show on youtube which makes it look as much circus as music, but I guess that's entertainment:

Ain't Harrah's Tahoe nice? We stayed there for two nights back in January 2001. Love the drive up the east side of the lake too. Glad you had some luck. Not everyone comes back with a piccolo!

Thanks for the report and glad to hear you came out ahead. You left home at 5 AM for your trip?... that is really early.

Now every time you see the grand kid with the piccolo you will remember this trip.

Yah it was early, we had to leave then to get there in time for
Reg. for the Tourn. We left on Tourn. day instead of the day before
so we would have 4 days straight at harrahs with out a day in
the middle to stay some where else. I didn't like doing it that
way but that was the way the 2 tourns were sched. The Musical
thing is becoming a yearly event. Last year my Daughter went
with us and we came home with a Flute, to replace a cheaper one I picked
up at a yard sale. The Daughter and I are going back in 2 weeks
for her belated B/D present. We'll have to check out The Ring of
Fire show. BC, yes Harrahs Tahoe is really an upgrade over Reno.
Plus its a 1 hr. closer to us and the Scenery is over the Top!
