I was busy last Thursday morning, so I arrived at Carson City about 4PM. The Nugget offered me $5 in free play and $5 in dining credit. This is certainly not much of an offer, but they have some quarter old coin droppers with 8/5 BP and a royal flush progressive. I was anxious to get some of those coins in my hand and carry them over to the counting machines at the cashier. The trouble was I never had a single coin drop for me. I would feed in a $20 bill, lose that and put in another $20....repeat. I decided to walk across the street and play at the Horseshoe. What an interesting casino. I got nothing.

I got out of downtown Carson City and wanted to check out the Fandago on the south end of town. This is a very nice place and looks very similar to the Peppermill in Reno. I heard they have full pay deuces wild (over 100%) with a royal flush progressive. Yes, they do and I gave it a go. I played for a little while and left up about $20. I am thinking this might be a better choice to play over the Nugget.

I was getting a little tired from the day and drove down to the Carson Valley Inn in Minden and checked in. I decided to play just a little bit before heading for the bed. I wanted to conserve my bankroll, so I was looking for penny and nickel video poker. I found both and decided to play a penny 10 play deuces wild. Ultimate poker pays a multiplier depending up your previous hand. I was dealt 4 to the royal and hit a natural royal flush with a 4 X multiplier! !! That paid 16,000 pennies .........($160). The machine was very loud and people kept coming over to see what huge jackpot I hit. After being embarrassed too many times for playing pennies, I hit the play button and the noise stopped. That erased my earlier losses, so I was happy.

The next day (Friday) I played video poker for 14 hours with a little table games thrown in and I did hit a quarter royal for $1,000....a real one this time. I ended up ahead $1200 for the two day trip, so it was a great trip.

I had my $50 dining credit and the Manager told me they had a special of a wild boar shank that was very good. So that is what I had. It is now off my list of food items I have never consumed. I should have ordered a steak.

My gambling bankroll envelope is looking better now.

Way to go CaSwede! Pretty sweet run of luck (or should I say "swede"?).

I've been to all the Casinos you mentioned except the Fandango. My favorite is the Nugget, but, despite good VP paytables I've never had much luck there. I love the 80's look of the casino and old coffee shop has good coffee shop food.

You're right the Horseshoe across the road is an interesting place. I was only in there once, many moons ago. I got the impression I was intruding on a private club. I won a few bucks and got outta there.

My wife says everything comes in "threes" so maybe you've got another Royal coming to you.

With the notable exception of the Ormsby House, Carson City's casinos just keep rollin' along year after year. Yet, it's not really thought of as a tourist destination. Reno, which is, has had so many close down. I wonder, is it high paid state workers and retirees that keeping Carson going?

Cool, cool places, all - thanks, Swede, for spending some time at those spots - I've always wanted to do more out there, and especially that overnight stay at Carson Valley Inn - great work, especially on emerging in a winning position!

I've done the same trip many, many times, I used to love CVI it was
my favorite. It was sold to one of the Eldro. owners who also owns
Bodine's in CC. He made a bunch of improvement's to it, but also
removed a lot of the favorite games we loved in favor of lower pay
outs, Go figure?? 1$ pickem Poker, Keno and the yearly Tri gameathon
Tournaments, also removed the Kids video Room with a chaperone. I still stop by on the way to Reno and eat a Katie's, Great food.16 more days
and I get to do it all again, in Reno.

CaSwede, awesome trip report, and congrats on the winnings! The wild boar shank sounds great. If you're ever back in the Fandango, be sure to check out the Rum Jungle Buffet. It's very good for the price, with that "old-skool Peppermill" decor.

Thanks for the feedback.
Dave- I really like the old style casino of the Nugget, but they seem to be removing more and more of the high return video poker. I like the coffee shop also and that old fashion counter makes some nice sandwiches.

Stan- The CVI treats me very well. The rooms are very nice if you get a remodeled one and the food is good. Give it a try sometime.

spdmrcht- I also like the way the CVI was before the cleanup and new owners, but they are very generous with offers. Besides the free rooms, free play and $50 for dinner, they also give me $50 in gas at their Shell station. It is also a much shorter drive for me over Reno.

Mammoth- The evening I was at the Fandango there was a huge line for the buffet. They must have something positive going for the buffet. The only trouble with the Fandango is they do not have a hotel. I like to stay at places that give me free rooms. I hate paying over $100 for that motel next door as it cuts into my gambling budget.

I remember being able to play full pay video poker (even at the nickel level) at that 4 sided bar near the center of the casino. Some great beers on tap including Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Thought I'd died and gone to gambling heaven!

Sorry Swede, I couldn't relax without my cyber-smoke!
