I need help/advice.
I must drive from Peppermill to Centennial Park in Dayton - east of Carson City, just off Hwy 50.

The Yahoo map doesn't show using 395 which I thought was the route to Carson City.
Instead it shows going over NV 341 and 342 to hit 50.

Is this different?
I don't know of a route 341. If it exists, how do I find it from So Virginia St? Is this preferable to 395?

Thanks for help.

In any case, get over to 395 and take freeway South and don't try to take S. Virginia...unless you have a LOT of time.

The more scenic and most direct (but longer time) exit to " Virginia City Historic Distric" is about six miles or so South. As you come off exit, the light at S. Virginia shows 341 to left (Virginia City) and I think 431 to Mt. Rose. This is a windy, steep and scenic way to VC and Gold Hill. Average speed slows to maybe 25 or 30 mph.

But staying on 395 South the 25 miles or so to Carson City is 65 mph all the way. When entering Carson, Hwy 50 is clearly marked. Dayton is about 12 miles East and is freeway all the way.

If I was in a hurry, Carson is faster. If you have time to stop at VC, take Geiger Grade. Do not plan on 6 mile canyon road from VC to Dayton. It was washed out in January flood and is still not repaired yet.

Good Luck, Jerry.

JD

ps: Just checked yahoo maps. 395 to exit 57B, 341 Geiger thru VC to Hwy 50, East to Dayton = 33 miles, 51 minutes (maybe longer if traffic). Hwy 395 thru Carson, East on Hwy 50 to Dayton = 41 miles, 56 minutes (but I say 45 minutes tops).

Stop at Mark Twain Casino in Virginia City and tell them you know the $ 2 bill guy!

Thanks, JD,
I kept thinking that this route must go thru VC but nothing mentioned it. I know that I would not want to go that way if in a hurry. Which I would be.

Unfortunately, just today I learned that my trip has been cancelled. So I will not be coming to Reno. I was really looking forward to Tuesday nite with John. Another time perhaps.
In fact, my wife had decided not to come. She suggested that I could get together with John for the Happy Hour.
So, John, even though she may find you weird (doesn't everyone?), she does accept that I value our friendship.
(Come to think of it: She thinks all my friends are weird!!!) Twisted Evil

If my house sells soon, I will not be coming to Reno for awhile. If it does not, I will attempt to resume "normal scheduling".

JD, I am curious about this. Does this mean that there are TWO roads from VC to Dayton? Is 6 mile canyon not the MAIN road from VC to Dayton?
Or, can you not "get there from here"?

JD hate to hear the 6 mile canyon road is washed out, that is a beautiful drive, we drove it in winter with snow on the road, and saw wildhorses on the side of the hills.

Jerry I hate to hear about your trip being cancelled, I was rooting for you, I don't have my maps with me they are in the 4 X 4 truck which is having some maintaince done so I am going from memory but yes there are two roads The main road off 395 (probably 341) goes through V.C. and I beleive Goldfield, which is an old mining era town people still inhabit, it is not as touristy as V.C. but has a little Choclate Shop and lots of old building if I remember right. Then it comes out on Hwy 50, where if you turn left (east) Dayton is about 5 miles. 6 mile canyon road is a seperate road that runs between 341 and Hwy 50 comes in at the far end of Dayton. You turn left on to it right as you come into V.C. or if in Dayton you turn left onto 6 mile canyon at the far end of Dayton.
See our hobby is poking around the Sierra Nevadas and Western Nevada in our pickup truck, usually with our dog, but of course when we go the Casinos and stay in their hotels it is just the wife and I but that gives us more time to explore the adult places where the pooch couldn't go anyway.

I'm not sure if there is another Centennial Park in Dayton, but I'm thinking the park you're after might be in Carson City, off of Hwy 50. It's a sports complex with softball fields, tennis courts, and soccer fields right next to the Eagle Valley Golf Course. Not that it matters now anyway, but for future reference....
