Hi again everyone,

Well, unfortunately, after a verification call to the HR department at the Cal Neva today regarding those efficiencies, I got a no again due to having a dog. She mentioned that there are alot of "illegal cats and dogs" there now, which might have been what the other employees were referring to? Oh well, our Harrah's and Motel 6 loop continues. It was worth a shot.

Alison - yes, still kinda blown away here. Maybe it's time to trek down to the Pep, where I haven't been in a few weeks, to try my luck there? Maybe Silent Bob will pull through for me again!

BCDave - that's an awesome shot for sure. Go Bobcats! haha And that was some return you got for sacrificing the shades.

Stan - Question: "But man, that's some great work - I'd say, "Keep it up!", but I'm wondering how you're ever going to top this gallery?!"

Answer: Only if a few more come!

Further investigation of the Nevadan machines yielded these since that last round. Yes, I decided to get bold and give the $5 machines a try, but only for a little bit...2 coin $5 machines are bold enough, but 3 coin $5 machines are just plain flat out CRAZY!

Machine #1, $75 in: A mixed hit for $1000.

Machine #2, about $150 in: Another mixed hit for $1000.

Machine #3, about $500 in: NOTHING. NADA. Like I mentioned, CRAZY! Oh well, still up.

Back at Harrah's on Monday, and I happened to notice one of the same machines I'd hit just a week prior had a rising jackpot meter that still hadn't reset. This was a scary one...about $800 in with not a single hit in return, not even a blank or bar combination. The kiosk at Harrah's can be good (or bad!) like that sometimes.

Then, all of a sudden:

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

OK, that one took a little bit of effort, but, still up!

Back at the Cal Neva, the machine immediately to the left of the $1731 jackpot machine I blitzed is being a slowpoke, hanging right now at around $1365, so I'm watching it like a hawk. It's been spitting out $200 and $300 hits like mad. Meanwhile, the other Red Hot Genies at Harrah's still hasn't hit and is looming at around $1089. You just never know...

However, the other Nevadans are still rockin'. Like this:

AND THIS!

CHING! Hail Lady Luck, Phat Phillys, and Egg McNevas!

Me thinks hitting over a thousand on a dollar machine is better than hitting one thousand on a five dollar machine.

Thank you, Shooty, for spelling out what we're all thinking, but are a tad too timid to say.

Meanwhile, I hope, Mammoth, for your sake, that your heart is truly "Mammoth" - mine would have quit several jackpots back; there's such a thing as too much excitement!

John, it's now clear that the prize for "Dizzying Highs and Terrifying Lows" should be awarded to Mammothgambler.

In addition to "Dizzying Highs and Terrifying Lows" maybe he also deserves "Biggist Cahones" award. Keep it up MG, YouDaMan!

And Shooty, watch your fucking language. Smile

Thanks John! Hit me up soon (and any other Reno visitors, for that matter), because one question remains right now:

WHAT IN THE HELL AM I GONNA DO WITH ALL THESE COMP DOLLARS?

MG, have you checked with the casinos about the expiration dates of the comps? They vary from property to property. I think Alison is aware of a lot of them. The Peppermill never expires them as long as you play at least once every 13 months. I think the GSR is running a locals special of $5 for a lunch buffet. My friend, Amberleigh took me there last week, and it was a great meal. At $5 a meal, your comp dollars should last the rest of your life. Here's hoping your good fortune holds up.

Oh, and one more thing: I will NEVER again question your ability to top any particular round! I received richly-deserved correction for my failure to hold faith in your abilities, and shall not repeat that mistake.

All hail Mammoth, King of the slots, holder of holds, Blazer of Sevens, he-who-makes-the-machines-quake-in-fear, keeper of the ferocious-yet-lovable Tessa, boarder of the snow, and Kraal-wide master of the reels.

(See "King Solomon's Mines" for examples of lofty titles just like that one!)

Thanks so much for the props. Jeez, according to casino staff members, I'm "The Blazing 7s Dude" at Harrah's, "The dude that got here at 4 o'clock" at the Cal Neva, and now, all this!

Well, I don't know how much longer Lady Luck is gonna keep throwing all this good luck around, but she can keep right on!

I stashed the bulk of the funds and paid a few bills, but decided to keep a grand aside for play money.

On Tuesday evening, I made a big mistake and put WAY too many quarters in a quarter Blazing Sevens machine at Harrah's, where the jackpot was just over $400. I think I mentioned it previously, but although you can get lucky, these things start getting not so worth it when you start playing a couple of hundred dollars in quarters just to get a hit, and they can spite you during a dry spell - moreso than the dollar machines in my honest opinion. I've found myself thinking I'm "being good" by playing quarters vs. dollars, but I still swear I have better luck and lose less money on dollars. Oh well…go figure it finally hit for someone the next day (the mainstream story of my life, it seems!) That's it, no more quarters...

Afterward, I finally got a chance to try out the Top Deck at the Cal Neva. I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty well-travelled place moving forward, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly when they open and close. I went for the NY Steak Special, which comes with a heap of sautéed mushrooms on top, and two sides. I went for the mixed vegetables (obviously from a can, but no complaints here) and rice pilaf. Everything was really good. It appears they don't serve bread or rolls with the specials, so I'll make note to ask moving forward.

I roamed around to see how the "sluggish Nevadans" were doing - those few that still hadn't hit a top jackpot recently. The machine to the left of the one I blitzed earlier was still hanging at about $1471.

Question: how come it can't always be this simple?

$100 in. 5 spins of nothing. A $60 hit which was played back. Down to $108 remaining. Then:

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

Wow. She finally blew her top. $1471.51! I guess the persistence of monitoring that machine sure did pay off!

Ditto for yesterday. Most of the Blazing 7s (and the Red Hot Genies machines) at Harrah's were played through for the moment, so went over to the Eldorado to do a "machine sweep" - monitoring the progressive meters and watching for people to play behind. Somebody hit a $1680 progressive about 5 minutes after I got a $300 hit and walked (like I said, the mainstream story of my life!) No complaints on that run, pretty much held even.

I forget sometimes that there are two Blazing 7s machines on the second floor at the Eldo, right in between the Buffet and the Swarovski outlet. One looked like it had just reset, so I went for the other - what I classify as an "old skool, first generation model." They are just that - some of the earliest machines in the lineup since the Blazing 7s were invented in the mid-80s, with much bigger 7s, super slow meters, and a copyright stamp with a 1989 manufacture date. Seems like they are still out there, but are slowly dwindling. Most of these models I've played either don't have sound, or something is broken, so I was pretty surprised that this one was fully functional.

This machine had a progressive of just under $1500. Played through about $700 and FINALLY got a $200 hit. Yikes. Fortunately, the other machines at the Eldo were firing all day to make up the difference, even putting me back ahead.

Early Wednesday morning, I decided to go check it again, as the meter had raised to about $1590.

Again, question: how come it can't always be this simple?

$87 in, and I heard a familiar song, but something was different. It was very tinny, and sounded like something that was coming off the back of an ice cream truck, or maybe out of a circus tent. For a second, I flashed back to the mid-80s and thought it was something coming out of the MIDI synthesizer attached to my Radio Shack computer with cassette recorder (yup, disk drives were a really big deal back then - those were the days!)

Oh, never mind, it was just the old-skool version of "We're in the Money!" Jeez, the computer generation sure has come a long way. $1591.72 - and an insane payback for the losing session the day beforehand!

(Click on the image to view the video clip, and hear the "old-skool" music score.)

Today, it was back down to Virginia and Plumb. It's been a while since I've been in the Pep, actually since JD was in town last, so I was definitely overdue. 4x multiplier day too.

A few $200 and $300 hits right off the bat, and I bumped into a nice traveller from Miami who had mentioned the top jackpots on two different machines were hit the evening beforehand within the 5 machines that are there. ALWAYS good knowing. Like I mentioned, bumping into people like this vs. all these idiots that like to trick people with their "1 credit spin-outs" is definitely the call!

After that, it was down to the Atlantis. I mention it every time, but I've never had a lick of luck there hitting anything substantial, and always leave feeling lucky if I even break even. I saw a lady plunk a good $3500 in a Double model with nothing in return, so I was cautious and stuck with the three regular models. Got 2 $200 and 1 $300 hits (although that last one took a while, but, still up!)

Tonight, I went back and noticed that the meters hadn't jumped more than a dime, so I decided to try out a Double model away from the kiosk, lined up along the wall.

Yikes. About $600 in, and only a few blanks and bar combinations. Meanwhile, I was picking up a bad vibe that I was being watched. I HATE being watched while I'm playing (except for the eyes in the sky, which can't be avoided). Turns out some idiot who was loudly complaining that he had lost big-time was kicked back about 50 feet away and wouldn't take his eyes off my machine. Already concerned, then picking up a bad vibe, is not cool during a gambling session!

Then, all of a sudden, I heard the "new-skool" version of my song. $1028.89! Thank God! Not the upper progressive, which is still on the bucket list of things to accomplish, but, I took it. About six staff members came rushing up at once, but I was able to get a couple of photos and a very short video clip.

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

So, I can now say I've hit a jackpot at the Atlantis (with a bit of effort.) Meanwhile, back at the Pep, right now, as we speak, a rather scary looking lady wearing poker shades is playing THREE MACHINES at one time, and my host was mentioning that 4 people have already complained about her. Always something!

You are crowned the blazing KING and I love those Nevadan Machines.
I just read though your post and watched some of the video....that's it! I'm leaving in the AM and heading straight to RENO (really been planning for a couple weeks).
I always stay at the Cal Neva so lets hope you didn't run them all dry, I should be there by noon, looking forward to lunch at the little nugget.

Right on Slacker, charge it! I'll message you my contact info if you wanna meet up for a beer or something. Actually, there are three Nevadans that have been slow-pokin and still haven't hit yet so I'd be more than happy to point those out to you!

OK - the 3-machine-playing lady with the poker shades finally left the Pep. Time to go investigate, a California Veggie Burger at the Café Milano is calling...

Never! Oh, forgot to post the very last one, which hit for $1035.01, again, not spending too much getting there.

The next evening, I was hanging out at Harrah's and the funniest thing happened, just outta the blue. I rode the elevator downstairs with a blond haired lady and the conversation went something like this:

"Hi, do you have a German Shepherd named Tessa?"

"Yes."

"Are you Mammoth?"

"Uh, yeah, who are you?"

...lo and behold, it was LilyJDragonfly and the Dog! Staying on the same floor! So, that's 3 board members I've met in person, John, JD and now Lily. Lily, it was great finally meeting you all in person!

Next day, unfortunately the luck turned, but not on the machines. I was feeling the wrath from the first day of the Blues Brews BBQ event the day before, but got ready for round #2. Late that afternoon, after chomping on just about everything grilled all day, I started feeling really, really bad. Like I had food poisoning, but much worse. Well, next thing you know, I'm rolling up to the emergency room in the back of the Harrah's limo! And the worst nightmare came true:

SALMONELLA POISONING!

And wanna know what's worse? The ER crew mentioned there's several reported cases from that event each year, along with food poisoning, but it's not something that's heavily publicized. I guess it's impossible to track down which vendors are the ones that get people sick and don't cook their meats properly, but it was an eye opener to maybe think twice about the street fair cuisine moving forward! And no, I didn't eat anything from anywhere else that weekend. I skipped the WingFest this weekend, although I did retrieve my free draft beer from the Cal Neva tent!

So, the jackpots came just in time, because that was an ass-whooper of a hospital bill, even with my insurance...two nights, IV unit, meds, the whole shebang. Thank God someone was available to keep an eye on Tessa. Jeez, most of those April jackpots went back to the IRS, now this! Oh well, at least I didn't play them back, but here's hoping one of these future runs will yield some permanent pocket change (for a change!)

So, just sitting tight for the moment. Only six more weeks of unemployment benefits left, so hoping for a miracle. And more jackpots! The good news? I got my first two mailers from the Cal Neva and there's lots of weekly free play. The bad news? The Nevadans aren't free play machines Sad

Yesterday, I made another amazing discovery at the pool at Harrah's. Yes, one of the Red Hot Genies made it all the way to stardom on a Caution sign!

I'm thinking this particular image would be perfect on the game itself for those times when it doesn't hit. To me, it just screams, "Oops, I lost my ass!" Maybe 3 on the payline for a little 10 credit bonus or something?

On a side note, for all you bowlers out there, be sure to check out the AMF on Stardust Street. $10, unlimited games, unlimited players, unlimited timeframe, and it even includes shoes. Great time passer for when the progressives aren't up, and I've found the lane conditions much less oily than the GSR. Unfortunately, the Harrah's lane is being taken down this upcoming Saturday, so jump on it while you can! Hey, maybe they'll put some new machines in the East Tower now?

Sorry to hear you chowed down on iffy BBQ, Mammoth.

Most food poisoning is a norovirus (like on cruise ships) but if it was for sure salmonella, my guess it was chicken. OR chicken thawing, or raw chicken on a surface used for other food prep.

Any guess which booth it might have been?

You didn't catch the "blazing 777" bad joke?
