Hi, hope everyone is doing well!

These have, without a doubt, been some of the best 72 hours of my life, with a few new milestones and record-breaking jackpots along the way. Here goes…

Early Tuesday morning, I was anxiously awaiting yet another delayed unemployment compensation payment, due to Memorial Day. Secretly, I think the government is running out of money and they just aren't telling people about it. I still think I'd be better off at McDonald's vs. being on unemployment compensation - if only they were hiring...

Anyhow, I went over to the GSR to dump some things off at my storage unit and utilize my $25 in free play. I pondered risking it in a dollar machine, but decided to jump on the quarter Blazing 7s.

It's funny how JD recently re-triggered a very old post in the "Favorite Machines" section, where the original poster was speaking of the Blazing 7s. I had mentioned that I don't normally mess with the quarter machines a lot, and had yet to hit a progressive on a quarter machine, just for the flair. Guess there's a first and second time for everything.

Progressive Jackpot #1: $278.85. Unfortunately, couldn't snag a video clip, but still managed to snap a shot. Same old song and counter, just no "Jackpot Call Attendant" notification and no handpay.

That evening at Harrah's, a few spins into a dollar Blazing 7s yielded Progressive Jackpot #2: $1506.56. All of the machines in the dollar kiosk had pretty low progressives, but it goes to show that they can literally hit at any time, and it's not always a situation where higher is better - especially if none of 'em are high.

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

Not even half an hour later with a few more spins in, I jumped on another dollar machine, which yielded Progressive Jackpot #3: $1501.31. Funny thing was, they were almost completely back-to-back, which rarely ever happens for me.

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

So, Tuesday yielded three progressive jackpots, which started off of $25 in free play. No complaints here!

In that "Favorite Machines" post, I spoke of some of the Blazing 7s "variations" I've been checking out lately - same brains, music scores, sounds, and body as the original, just with customized graphics. There's the Red Hot Genies at Harrah's, and the Cal Neva Nevadan slots at the Cal Neva (where some models are made by IGT vs. Bally Tech, but basically the same thing.)

I've become a big fan of the Red Hot Genies at Harrah's, as they're a 2 coin, $1 model with a slightly different payable, which can keep you going a lot longer. Mixed genies will give you $100, and three of a kind genies will give you $300. I had been keeping my eye on the progressive on one of the two machines (located in the skywalk casino directly across from the Hash House a Go Go and the escalators), which I'd seen grow slowly over the previous couple of weeks. It rarely ever gets above $1100, so I played it on and off. Besides a few mixed $100 hits, I was able to line up three yellow genies for $300.

Enter Wednesday morning, where the progressive meter was up to about $1098. Somebody had really played it throughout the evening, so I decided to give it a whack. About $25 in, BAM - three triple red genies! (Hey, anybody notice how the genies are "Blazing?") Progressive Jackpot #4: $1099.31.

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

Later on in the afternoon, I decided to jump on the kiosk of quarter Blazing 7s at Harrah's. About $10 in, and they played my song again. Progressive Jackpot #5: $381.57, not to mention my second quarter progressive ever, with the first one being only one day beforehand.

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

As previously mentioned, these quarter Blazers, in general, are really tight. More often than not, even tighter than the dollar machines, so just a quick heads up that the jackpots at Harrah's reset at $375, while the GSR is only $250. In the event one gets lucky, at least there's an additional $125 in the lineup at Harrah's.

During a restroom break, it was very evident that someone had a bad day at the casino. But jeez, was it really necessary for them to throw a cashout voucher in the toilet? That's a perfectly good quarter right there - they could've at least tried a nickel machine or something, or left it for someone as a tip, left it at a machine, or given it to a passerby. Gotta admit though, I've also seen lots of racebook betting slips being thrown in the toilet a similar fashion. I guess it's a new trend!

Dear beloved Cal Neva: I'm still shooting myself that I didn't start playing at your casino on a more consistent basis early on. Your Nevadan machines ROCK! So sorry I wasted so much time in the Silver Legacy (oh, the marketing people finally gave me $50 in free play for my time and trouble with that idiot rent-a-cop, which got me about $27 on a dollar Blazing 7s machine. Proud to report that day was my last trip in there forever!)

Anyhow, the Nevadans are also the same exact setup as the Blazing 7s, only with customized Cal Neva bars, rams, and bobcats. 3 bobcats = 300 credits, mixed bobcats and rams = 200 credits, and three rams = progressive. And very, very loose! Quarter and dollar varieties available, with a few $5 machines mixed in.

I checked out the dollar machines on the left wall, and after my good luck with the "low progressives" at Harrah's the previous evening, I decided to go for a low jackpot. About $35 in, and three rams lined up. Progressive Jackpot #6: $1012.21. I was cracking up because the progressive cashout voucher automatically pops out, with a single "ching" sound vs. a jazzed up music score. It's kind of cool being automated - these machines won't let you cash out your original ticket until you do the single verification spin, and it's awesome not having to wait for an attendant to give you a handpay. CHING!

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

Enter Thursday afternoon around 4 pm, where a dollar Nevadan IGT model had a progressive that was looming at around $1510. Employees and players alike were buzzing all around that there had never been a dollar model this high, as they usually cut off at about $1400. Say no more - as soon as I found that out, it was on - time for another blitz session! I hadn't had a good long one since that 4 am huge Blazing 7s win at the Pep back in January. I began at around 4:15 pm. Little did I know I had a full NINE HOURS of work ahead of me!

I started out with $200 cash. The rest is history. Yes, I played all throughout the afternoon, evening, and morning for that matter. Up, down, up, down, going as low as $25 in remaining credits at one point, but man, those bobcats and rams sure do pop up quite frequently! Here's the "ammunition sequence" slideshow of the hits achieved along the way (I didn't want to post each individual photo in the mainstream trip report, because there are many.)

http://s252.photobucket.com/user/mammothrider1973/slideshow/sequence

It was awesome talking with the FRIENDLY (hear that, Silver Legacy?) security guards (who had mentioned that there's a complete psycho working at the SL - hey, I think I know that guy!) and staff throughout the evening. The slot attendant, Patsy, was really nice, and even guarded my machine a total of four times throughout the evening for restroom breaks. I was talking with some locals who have been Cal Neva players for decades. Awesome place for sure.

At around 1:15 am on Friday, I was completely drained, with a hurting neck, hurting spin button hand, and just overall wondering if it was time to give up. Blitzing these machines (playing until you hit the progressive, hell or high water!) can be very risky and very time consuming. Most times I've pulled it off, but there have been a couple of times where I haven't, which can result in a total loss. At this point, I had earned about $2000 in credits and didn't lose my original $200 investment, so there was about $2200 in the machine.

Then, all of a sudden, right when I was literally on the verge of falling asleep:

Ching! Ching! CHING! Three rams! I FINALLY HIT IT! NINE HOURS LATER! Progressive Jackpot #7 (with an almost $2000 added bonus for all the effort, glad it worked out!): $1730.16. Again, several people mentioned that they had never seen a dollar Nevadan progressive go this high, so I guess it was worth it, all nine hours of it. What was the craziest was that throughout the course of the evening, so many people were walking by, wanting to jump on that machine, but I was parked. I even ran to the Gofer Mart around the corner and grabbed a 4 pack of Rockstar and a few granola bars to keep the juices flowing. My only response at the time was, "I'm blind! I've been sitting here playing this machine since four o'clock!"

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

After an awesome half pound hot dog special at the Casino Grill, I was back at Harrah's. Since I was having all this good luck, I figured that maybe, just to see what would happen, it might not be a bad idea to try a few spins on a 2 coin, $5 machine. Guess which one I picked? Yes, the 2 coin Blazing 7s in the high limit room!

About 7 spins in, and two red-red-miss hits along the way, and I about dropped. This, friends, was another milestone - my very first jackpot on a $5 Blazing 7s. Progressive Jackpot #8: $5012.20! (I'm still in shock - second biggest jackpot ever to date, the first being that $7200 hit I had in Vegas back in the day.)

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

By this time, the sun was coming up and I was hungry again. Back to the Cal Neva for an Egg McNeva. While I was waiting, I figured, oh, what the hell, maybe just a few spins…

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

Progressive Jackpot #9: $1031.86. With little effort going in. I was greeted by a few employees who had heard about the progressive earlier. One of them exclaimed, "Hey, look, it's the dude that got here at 4 o'clock. He hit it again!" And that Egg McNeva sure was tasty…

Back to the GSR yesterday morning with another $25 in free play. This time, I went for the old-skool dollar Blazing 7s machines, as they had the highest jackpots. A $200 hit on one, a $300 hit on the other, and then charged the mainstream kiosk of 6 with mixed $200 and $300 hits on each. Go figure, the last machine in the kiosk had a low progressive of $1004, and the next thing you know, they're playing my song again. Progressive Jackpot #10: $1004. Thanks again, GSR! This is the third progressive I've hit off of your free play, and your ANTI-MEAN-BREED-DOG hotel, in the past two months!

(Click on the image to view the video clip.)

So, that's been my last three days. 10 progressive jackpots in 72 hours, with a myriad of small wins in between, starting off with a mere $25 in free play on a quarter machine, up about $13K in the end after all was said and done. Holding a brick of $100s was a new experience for me. I guess anything can happen. Off to the bank before Tessa decides to mistake the pile for one of her chew toys (and no, I'm not playing it back!)

Until next time,

THAT IS A TRIP REPORT !!!

I love all those just under $ 1200 so NO W-2G. Do you have any idea what your coin in was? Gotta be massive.
'
You do know Cal Neva has a hotel (the old Onslow/Riverboat just across the street don't you? You are NOW the highest roller there.

Did you get to the Cal Neva Skyway Bar? In the morning Cherie is the bartender and most nights it's JP. Both of them should remember "JD" the $ 2 bill guy. I'll play VP on the bartops there and grab a large wine and duck into the Top Deck and sit at the counter so no wait.

THEY TOO remember the guy that tips every line cook, dishwasher and busboy a duece. (biggest slab of prime rib EVER).

Way to go, Mammoth. Go to the card clubdesk and ASK for your free play. And I think on TUESDAY'S $ 20 buys $40 in play. But only one promo per day so make sure it's the BEST promo for YOU. You can scan your Cal Neva card right outside Top Deck to check points.

Tessa says, "Can you trade one of these pieces of paper in on a squeeky toy and a tennis ball, PLEASE"?

Oh... and DO NOT EVEN TRY to deposit anything close to $ 10,000 in one bank account even over a few days. Better to open accounts at three different banks for $ 5,000 each so it does not trigger a form 8300. If you think W2-Gs are a pain wait until you're pegged for a 8300 !! Be Vewwwy, Vewwy careful NOT to try to deposit $ 9000 one day and $ 6000 the next. The Feds call it money laundering and they will TAKE your dough then allow you to explain later.

Thanks for the stay-at-home TR, fun reading.

JD - as if W2-G's weren't bad enough now we have to worry about 8300's too? If only I had that kind of money!!

Hi JD, thanks for the heads up. I actually did just that, divided it up among a few different accounts. As mentioned, with all my numerous past bank affiliated debit card woes over the years, I've been skating off the prepaid debit cards for quite some time, but didn't wanna go too crazy with the $5 reload fees, so just to be on the safe side, for the first time in close to ten years, I went and opened a savings account at the Skank (oops I mean Bank) of America. It took a lot of consideration to go back to them, because a checking account there was nothing but trouble with fees and service charges and what not. However, their savings program seems alot more feasible, so went with it. All the funds have been hidden!

Regarding the Cal Neva: Yes, I was pretty blown away with the perks of the Best Bet Club. It's been a good 5-7 years since I've even seen a casino that will give you cold hard cash back, and they have it set up where you can either get cash or free play, dollar for dollar (no half or 3/4 credit exchanges!) A visit to the Top Deck is going to be in order very soon so I can try it out. Nothing against the Casino Grill but I've been in there for like the past 5-6 days in a row, so time for a little breather!

And oh yes, Tessa even got to try a Phat Philly the other day. Probably not the best move, but we were celebrating! LOL

Regarding the accommodations there, yes, I'm sure it won't be long before the offers start coming in, but unfortunately, it's not a pet-friendly hotel to the best of my knowledge. Early on, LilyJDragonfly let me know that they've got efficiencies available at a monthly rate there, but I investigated it early on and it's no dice with a dog. However, for those looking for an extended vacation, you can jump in there for $130 a week if you sign a 6 month lease! Just contact the human resources department, and they've also got a phone number on a sign outside the hotel.

I forgot all about your hassles with those FAKE Visa (debit cards).

Here is a suggestion:

There is a US Bank just South of Siena. Go in there, open a checking account with $ 2,000 and ask them for a secured visa CREDIT CARD. NOT A DEBIT CARD, a "SECURED CREDIT CARD".

Unlike a debit card, it is a real CREDIT CARD, but you have way more rights and no "HOLDS" of $ 100 on a $ 30 room charge. AND you have dispute rights that you do not have on a debit card.

Try an account with Great Basin Credit Union too.

And even at the SAME BANK or CU, split up your dough into checking, savings and credit card. If you have multiple accounts, you get better deals on fees, free checks, better rates... and credit rating.

SO at BAM.... $ 1500 savings, $ 1500 Checking, $ 1500 Secured Credit card......rinse, repeat. US BANK, Great Basin, etc.

After a year, tell them you want to drop the secured part and get a regular credit card with a $ 5000 LIMIT.

Thanks for the info JD, but I think I'm good at the moment on debit and credit cards!

I do have two real UNSECURED credit cards that I got along the way over this past decade. But the problem is, authorizations are still authorizations, no matter what type of card, it's still funds that are NOT available for you to use until the said authorizations are released. That's all I was trying to get around, and it hasn't happened yet, whatever card I'm using.

I investigated the SECURED cards some time back, and in reality, they are no different than the prepaid debit cards, checking account debit cards, or unsecured credit cards - holds are still holds that aren't available as funds until the casinos release them, and in reality, it's kind of a bad accident waiting to happen - who'd want to PAY top dollar for a credit card that is checked by the credit bureaus each month, like a real one is? It didn't make any sense to me!

If I do anything else with cards down the road, it's most likely going to be the Caesars Total Rewards Visa Card, which is also sponsored by the Bank of America. New and improved in the program, they are now offering variable APRs based on creditworthiness, not to mention mad multiplier days with reward credits on purchases, and extra perks for Diamond and Seven Stars players. It all sounds great, so that's going to be the one if anything!

I did not know you had regular credit cards. But I do recall the HUGE hassles you had with the multiple debit card holds and slow releases.

But your dough, your call. Great WEEK. Now Tessa wants to know where is her piece of the action? A tennis ball and a long walk would do for now.

Treat yourself to a Prime Rib at CAL NEVA's Top Deck . If there's a wait, walk right up and sit at the counter. Enjoy your win...WINS. Tell JP at Sky WAY bar hi. Last time I talked with him it was kind of a downer. He should remember me.

Are you at Harrah's now? I am so jealous. Since I trashed Sands in my last TR and Yelp review,.... no more invites for ME. Well, not from them anyway.

No worries! Back at Harrah's on Monday. Tessa had to have a fatty lump taken off her tail (non-malignant, thank God! My last Shepherd had a series of problems with them and they can really be problematic, so glad she's holding her own) last week so she's still kind of healing from that, which explains the Phat Philly! But yes, she's getting spoiled rotten!

Sorry to hear there's no further offers from the Sands, but you had every right to trash 'em. Hell, we all do if something's not right - that's what Yelp and TripAdvisor are for. People gotta know! The GSR has slightly reduced my daily free play for the upcoming month, but I think it has to do with the fact my coin-thru's been limited there lately since I'm once again just raking their free play only (and winning!), like the case was last summer, vs. leaving those one-star ratings and reviews (uh, books!) on both sites. I did at least get that part of their system figured out.

I seriously wonder how many casino marketing employees actually read and respond to these Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews? I know the Peppermill is really good about it on both sites - the managing director got in contact with me on TA last year after the overbooked suite incident, and I also got a "thank you" type message from another marketing rep after I left that 5 star on Yelp for the Café Milano. In my eye, it's great seeing that at least some people respond, no matter how good or bad the review. GSR does TripAdvisor only, but they get hit with so many bad complaints, I think they gave up. The Eldorado and SL have been in-and-out over the years, but the rest of the places in town seem kind of non-responsive.

As previously mentioned in some of my previous rants and posts, though: best rule of thumb I've learned around here is if there's a problem at the casino, yes, leave reviews on such sites. But more importantly, get in contact with the MARKETING DEPARTMENT addresses at the casinos directly. They not only go to the slot hosts, but the entire marketing staff, who sure would hate to see you leave or stop playing!

Great report Mammouth! Fun read and I am totally jealous. Have you checked into maybe getting service animal papers for Tessa? Not sure how it works in Nevada but here in Oregon you see alot of companion dogs as service animals. Anyways congrats on a great run and keep up the reports ,love em. Wynn

Many thanks everyone!

Mycran - yes, I've actually pondered getting Tessa's papers, as she has been trained for rescue, therapy and agility. I believe it would involve just getting in contact with our rescue's founder, where I adopted her, to get the ball rolling. However, I've managed to pull the "Can we come in? She's a service animal" line off pretty well in WalMart, McDonalds, 7 Eleven, and a few other places no problem (she even got a free Big Mac once!)

I recently read an interesting story about a woman who has an eastern grey kangaroo as a registered therapy animal. Her homeowner's association was trying to get them both kicked out of their condo, but she sued them and WON! I actually have a huge red kangaroo that I'm fostering down on the Gold Coast in Australia...maybe I should just go all out and bring her here as well. Can you imagine? Me, a kangaroo, and a German Shepherd all trucking down the casino corridor? Smile

OK, so I had to go back to the Casino Grill one last time until next week (um, anybody got any degreaser? I'm starting to feel kinda sluggish after so many visits...) and I'm getting it verified first thing tomorrow morning, but two of the employees let me know the Cal Neva has recently made some changes to their pet policy in the efficiency rooms and are now not only allowing dogs of any size, but cats as well! We're getting tired of moving around every three days, and have been doing so for quite some time, as May 14th made my 10 month anniversary here. Maybe not as nice as Harrah's, but I'm sure they're still better than the Motel 6 (and tons better than the motor lodges downtown!)

Holy Toledo, that's some serious coin-in!

Never noticed the Cal-Neva branded machines before; I'll have to drop a dollar in, just as one would at an altar of some sort...

Now, what's a "Single Verification Spin"? There's a lot of situations us low-rollers are clearly not familiar with...

Another thing: Getting those progressive jackpots requires that you play the "Maximum" bet per spin, no? So on a lot of those Blazing 7's, you're actually betting three bucks a spin? Or in the case of the "Red Hot Genie", two bucks a spin? Yoicks, that's quite a commitment!

three-bucks-a-hand Blackjack feels like all the action I can risk!

But man, that's some great work - I'd say, "Keep it up!", but I'm wondering how you're ever going to top this gallery?!

Hi Stan!

The "single verification spin" I'm referring to is the one that the slot attendants make you play (usually) after the top jackpot is hit and the machine is reset. I've never quite understood why they make you do it, other than to clear the winning combination off the board. I usually just play only one credit at this time, because although miracles can happen, chances are it's not going to hit again - although I did hear a success story about someone who hit the top jackpot, then it rolled over and literally hit again when the verification spin was done. Must be nice! I think the most I've ever gotten was maybe a blank or a triple bar combination during this time, and there's been a few times where the attendants either forget to tell you to do the verification spin, or just don't require it.

One thing I've been seeing around town on the uprise that's a MAJOR, MAJOR PISS-OFF are these people that sneak up on a machine that has just hit, where somebody leaves a winning combination on the board to be courteous for others (because anything can happen, but chances are it's going to be a while before it hits again), and they spin it out just in an attempt to trick people into believing the machine hasn't hit in a while. I still don't know what their motive is, but I saw a beggar inside the GSR for several hours one day blowing quarters and dollars big time just because, for some reason, he couldn't stand seeing winning combinations on the boards. I asked him what his motive was, and he just said, "I'm sick of seeing people winning and I want them to lose!" AAAAARGGGGH! All in the same breath, he's asking people for money... I know everyone's got their own personality and playing style, but I'll tell someone in a heartbeat that a machine just hit, or hasn't hit in weeks, or provide any information they ask. But that's just me.

And yes, with all of these Blazing 7s machines and their variants, 3 coins is max bet for the most part, and the progressive can't be hit unless you're playing max. 2 coins can also land a winning combination - I believe it's usually about half the amount of a 3 coin (3 blazing 7s or rams is $500, 3 bobcats or red 7s is $300, 3 mixed 7s or animals is $150). One feature of all these machine types is that the bar combinations (triple bars = $60, double bars=$40, single bars=$20, any bars=$10, and a blank=$2) can be achieved playing 1, 2, or 3 credits.

I've mentioned it before, but in general, I usually play max or play nothing at all, because it seems like I've missed out on major hits and jackpots by not doing so.

I see lots of people playing these, unfortunately not really understanding the paytables. I saw one woman play through close to a grand on a Blazing 7s one evening, only betting one credit on each spin, and walking away very mad when the maximum hit she ever achieved was $60, three triple bars. However, I also see several people trying to "push" them - playing single credits for a while, then switching to max bet, then maybe switching to two credits, etc., to get a winning lineup on the board. I guess everyone has their own style.

And yes, I agree - the "three dollar per pull or hand" action is usually all I can stomach (minus an attempt or two here and there at the $5 machines, only when extremely up, which can yield good results if one gets lucky as you can see here!), which is why I never learned how to play cards or tables. I think I'd be in major trouble trying to do anything else. I've tried and failed at learning to play poker so many times. Everyone has always told me, "cards just aren't your game." Craps, a different story maybe, but again, you get into spending so much money per roll unless you're in a low-roller joint. Along the way, after serious losing, I also learned that these penny machines are a misnomer for the most part, as some max bets with them can go as high as $25 per spin. That's alot of "PENNIES" if you ask me! Just give me my traditional three reels any day (although I did hit a Tier 4 progressive for about $1609 last March on a penny Quick Hit machine, also max bet).

Although awhile back, I too had a nice spot of luck at one of the Cal Neva's Nevadan machines. Back in 2005 someone came up to me at work and offered me $40 for my sunglasses. I took him up on the offer and squinted through the rest of my work day. I kept the $40 (Canadian) in an envelope until I got to Reno. Exchange rates were rough back then and I only got $26 U.S. for it. (And the Cal Neva always had the best exchange rates). Anyway I got this ........ $ 300! A substantially improved sunglasses fund!
