Coming into town for 2 nights. I haven't picked where I am staying yet but I would imagine it will be Silver Legacy (Sunday night comped) or Circus Circus (both nights comped). I am leaning SL because I haven't stayed there in quite a while.

I won't have a car so most places I go will be within walking distance of where I stay.

Definitely plan on hitting the Silver Peak Grill and Taproom on N Sierra. GREAT beer!

Can't believe I have been to Reno SO MANY TIMES and never went in the Nugget for one of those burgers. I just feel Awful Awful about it and plan on fixing that this trip!

The rest of the trip will be focused on college football and chasing Royals on $.25 progressive DDB VP machines.

I will post a trip report.

Yes, there's something magical about comped rooms. I hope you catch a few of those royals.

Since you're on foot, look for the yellow "Sierra Spirit" bus that loops around downtown. It'll take you places like UNR, all the casinos, art museum, auto museum and close to Rancho San Rafael. And the price is right -- FREE!

We're looking forward to your TR.

Reno has THE BEST Halloween in the U.S.

Something about anonymous costumes, wearing of masks and excess alcohol consumption bring out the best in those UNR college girls...

The Little Nugget would be a GOOD place to award your "Best of Show" prize of a free drink for what you think are the best costumes...and by "BEST" I mean "BREAST". "Could you help me do my hair and in applying my makeup next door?"

Check out Best Bets magazine for the bars offering big bucks for best costume. They have a real show going on.

To follow up on JD's excellent suggestion, I would suggest you consider participating in Reno's Zombie Crawl, hosted by a variety of downtown area drinking establishments. More details here:

MG, the Sierra Spirit doesn't leave the downtown area, but there is a bus that goes to the Peppermill and Atlantis about every 15 minutes during the day and less frequently at night. It costs about $2 a trip ($1 for seniors 60+). The bus doesn't have a number, but it's called "Rapid".

Thanks John! Stay tuned for my upcoming (LOSING) trip report - so far no luck, all the way down to the freeplay at the Pep - not one red cent!

We are a little disappointed we have no pics of the costumes from either SL or Bally's, I mean Reno Hilton...oh hell, I forgot what it is now.

You still owe us a trip report, JSR

I recently let a friend of mine borrow a travel bag I use when “going solo” and found notes from my trip inside so…

From the “Department of Better Late Than Never”!

Saturday October 29 2011

Flight to Minneapolis was good. The Minneapolis to Reno leg was GREAT due to having the last 2 rows of the plane all empty. Watched a movie and had a couple of beers.

Grabbed the shuttle to Silver Legacy and checked in with no issues. Took a room on a VERY low floor (same floor as pool) and was happy. Paying for wireless service is such a rip. I just carried my iPhone around to use it for any online service I needed.

I walked down to the Race and Sports book to watch college football. Little did I know that this would become the place that I would spend more time than anywhere else during my trip. I placed a small $20 3-team parlay wager on the afternoon games, found a seat at the Sports Bar and began my quest for a Royal on $.25 DDB VP.

I played just about nonstop for 3 hours getting only two 4oak (Jacks and Sevens) worth $62.50 each resulting in a losing session of -$80. The combination of MANY bottles of Miller Lite and not eating led me to Kokopelli sushi at Circus Circus. I paid about $30 total for “All-you-can-eat”, a beer and tip and they definitely lost $$$ on me. I lost count at $46 worth of sushi (according to the menu) stuffed in my pie hole.

I went back to the Sports Bar and more $.25 DDB VP. This session would keep me engaged during the OSU vs Wisconsin game until halftime. I had decided to go up to the room to watch the second half. I had a great session which included the following 4oak; dealt 2’s with a kicker ($200), drawn 3’s with a kicker, 10’s twice and 9’s. OSU is down 7-3 at halftime so I retire upstairs still VERY full from my sushi experience. This session was a good one +$375.00.

I had intended to go back downstairs but after watching the end of OSU’s 33-29 win over Wisconsin and Stanford/USC going 3 overtimes I crashed…

Sunday October 30th

I woke up at a ridiculous hour (3:30am) after going to sleep at 10pm. Since my trip was only 2 nights I decided to just get up and stay on EST instead of getting all out of whack.

I jumped up then went downstairs, grabbed some coffee and decided to just walk around a bit. I went over to Circus Circus and tried my luck at the Village Bar $.25 VP. BAD IDEA!!! $100 gone in about 30 minutes!!!
I retreated back to the Sports Bar at Silver Legacy. The bar was closed but the waitress from the Silver Baron Lounge took pretty good care of me after an initial $10 tip. She brought the beers 2 at a time. I failed to get any 4oak but played for quite a while for $100. It was during this session that I saw many people dressed in Halloween costumes (including a grown man dressed as a smurf) coming in from being out all night. VERY entertaining!

I went upstairs to shower before breakfast. I never miss the Sunday Brunch at Sterlings when in Reno. The food and service at Sterlings was again GREAT as usual. I went down to make a $20 3-team parlay bet on some NFL action then went to Drinx Lounge for the Bloody Marys. VERY good!

My 10am NFL game parlay STUNK! What did I do you ask? I bet another one on the 1pm games. Some friends of mine from Sacramento drove up just to spend a few hours with me which was VERY cool of them to do. We had a couple of beers and watched the 1pm games. How did my $20 1pm parlay do??? WINNER!!! My friends left so I found a seat at my trusty Sports Bar $.25 DDB VP. I played for easily 3 hours and had a GREAT session. Four of a kinds in order were; A’s no kicker  ($200), K’s, 6’s and A’s again (no kicker darn it!). I ended the night +$280 and waaaaaaaaaay ahead on beer!

Monday October 31

I woke up at 4am this morning and it was a LOT tougher to get up. I wonder why?!?!? I laid there and thought to myself “Didn’t you have some things you wanted to do this trip?!?” I did and of course have not left the confines of Circus Circus or Silver Legacy (with the exception of my shuttle ride from the airport). I decided to get up, grab some coffee and walk south down Virginia St. I made it as far as Eldorado LOL. I just didn’t feel like going anywhere else. I don’t go in Harrahs anymore (See report from Super Bowl weekend 2011) and the only other place I would go in would be the Cal-Neva. PASS!

I wandered around and eventually tried my luck at some $1 VP. $200 LOSER! I went back to old reliable at the Sports Bar. I took it easy and dropped about $60 after about 1 hour and only getting one 4oak (8’s).
My trip was coming to a close. I went up to Café Sedona, ordered the NY Steak and eggs to go, ate in my room and showered. Checked out and grabbed the shuttle to the airport. While waiting for my plane to depart, I ordered a beer and hit 4oak (9’s). Good ending to a good trip. Good flight home. I love Reno!

Don't fret about your late trip report. I once posted one that was well over twenty years late. Sounds like you had a good time and that's what we like to hear. Some good luck - some not so good and some great food and drink. Sounds like my trips except you get up when I go to bed.
