Lily, this report is unfolding like a soap opera. Seems you are very good at finding the strangest behavior to grace the streets and clubs of Reno.
I enjoyed the Penny story. Of course the Dog sort of prompted that incident by wearing a kilt in public.
Unfortunately, the singing bird wasn't Higgins. He just isn't that smart - he's still working on his parrot imitation.
Please explain to me the actual payout on "a 999-to-1 win on a $100 bet for the game." I know nothing about sports betting but assume you did not win $999,000.
Looking forward to your next installment. Keep up the wonderful work! |

Oh heavens no! We only picked up $100,000.... but hey, a win's a win!
So it was NOT Higgins... hrm. There is an imposter roaming the streets of Reno because he and his owner certainly did not correct our assumption!
As far as typos, well, I'll allow the reader to draw his/her own conclusions on this unfolding saga....
The Steak 'n Eggs were fortifying and clarifying and after screwing around with those penny slots again, The Dog and I were ready to go ice skating. It's amazing how quickly a c-note can open up closed gates. Strapped in to our skates, the soothing sounds of Debussy floating over the ice, we attempted to glide. And fell flat. And got up. And fell again. Of course, a small crowd had gathered to watch this debaucle. The Dog rectified the situation by pulling out a few c-notes and demanding that someone fetch a sled to pull us about on the ice. And so it was. A delightful moment as we sipped blackberry brandy from a bottle that was shattered only by the sounds of a siren whipping up over the curb.
The crowd scattered and we sat motionless on the ice as two of Reno's finest pulled out the bullhorn to demand we come off the ice. Our sledpuller thought otherwise and he began to skate quickly in a figure eight, still pulling us behind on the sled. Within the first loop, three or eight or ten more cops pulled up and a fire truck. Lord, what hell will this bring down upon us? |

Oh sure, blame the victim...
And when Lily said "sipped"... more like chugged. After the Nuggert's Azz-Kickers, that stuff went down like grape juice (okay, blackberry juice). |

Right-O. Back on task.
So there we were, figure-8-ing on the sled and a whirl of blue and red all around us, the sirens had gone silent and the only sounds were the blades on the ice and Mozart's well-known Sonata in C-Major (http://youtu.be/XqwMT5tCu7E - suggestion: open this in another tab and allow it to play for the reading of this segment. Also, grab some blackberry brandy to get the full effect)
It seemed like time had become elastic as we whirled around the ice and the officers and onlookers around the edges moved slowly or not at all. Then, they began to attempt to come on the ice.
A truly comical moment as they slid about and then retreated back to the safety of the rail. We continued to be pulled by our skater who seemed oblivious to all of it.
And then, two skaters pulled up next to us.... not the police, but two young kids. And then another one. And then three more in their mittens and scarves. By the time the Rondo began, the rink was filled with skaters and the police had faded back, except for Officer Bradley who had grabbed his skates and was skating and grinning with joy.
Ahhh.... an Occupy Ice Rink moment! Skate on, dear friends, skate on.
By now, I had had enough and we asked to be pulled to the edge and our guide complied without complaint. The Dog peeled a few deuces out of the strap and handed them to him.
Waiting at the curb was that sweet ride from the Cal-Neva and a chauffeur wearing a tank top and flipflops and a Members Only jacket. We climbed in and directed him to carry us to the Nugget so that we might refill our Azzkickers and get some nourishment. |

The Nugget was hopping with pre-New Year's Eve revelers in all sorts of outfits not fit for public consumption (or viewing, for that matter), but the one who really caught my eye was a grey-haired lady festooned with feathers and not much else. She was at the bar, slouched over a VP machine, furiously banging the buttons. The Dog and I settled in two seats over and whilst I sipped my Azzkicker, I watched her. She slammed back those Evan Williams on ice with speed. The bartender would call out every few minutes, "Ready for another, Lola?" to which she would feistilly reply, "Damn right, I am, Skippy."
I watched her down no less than six of these within twenty minutes at which time, she tossed a Jackson on the bar top and said, "It's time for the show." She pushed back her seat, stood up, and the Bob Seger playing in the casino faded down and Johnny Stacato eased in (click here for the song but NOT the video of this performance - http://youtu.be/BSswtKMpCdI - suggestion: open this in another tab and allow it to play for the reading of this segment. Also, grab some watered-down Margaritas in a plastic tube to get the full effect)
With a shake and shimmy, she took command of the floor, wiggling and jiggling and, as the kids say, she made it rain up in there... bills of all sorts of denominations poured out towards her.... she blew kisses and winked and teased and shimmied.... but as the song ended, she did a graceful twirl and scooped up her tips and planted herself back down at the bar.
Frankly, at this point, The Dog and I realized we'd had enough of a day and we shuffled back to the safety of our room at the Cal-Neva to shore up our strength for tomorrow - New Year's Eve!! |

New Year's Eve! Whilst I do appreciate breakfast in bed, the slightly squooshed leftover bits of the Awful-Awful from the previous day didn't really fit the bill and the Cal-Neva has suspended room service for the time being - something having to do with an incident involving biscuits and/or eggs; the details remain shrouded in mystery...
We elected to fortify ourselves with the buffet at the Eldo - such a pleasant and quiet experience. If you've not been there for breakfast after a serious bender the night before, I do recommend it. Low lighting, pleasant staff, and everything is fresh.
In spite of the near noontime hour, Virginia Street was quiet and we wandered over to the ol' Fitz - the reek of healthfulness and youth (The Dog suspects it's all that Axe body spray - http://youtu.be/OHCRWfV1q5A) hit us like a ton o' bricks and we quickly scurried back out to the familiar warmth and nicotine-stained comfort of The Nugget.
Lola wasn't there, but Bloody Marys and cold beer were in abundance. The VP machines were sticky but paying out on those 4OAKs! Satisfied after our wins, we cruised back to our beloved Cal-Neva to roll some bones...
The tables were cold and I kept passing over another hundo for another stack of chips. No dice. Well, I had dice, but no good rolls! Eh-la, you can't win 'em all...
You know, it's been a while since we'd been to Circus Circus and the Goldfish machine that I really liked was there. It was sunny and nice out, no need to have the limo drive us down the street, but we sure as hell weren't going to walk so we hailed a pedicab. Not as cheap as somewhere in the Pan Pacific, but still a deal. We demanded that the pedicabber to speak with an accent and he obliged coming up with some sort of Boston jive creation to give us a tour down Virginia. We hopped out at CC and while walking in, a whole hoard of little people came pulling up in a mini-bus. They piled out and I about lost my mind - it was the Mini PopStars gang! I swear, someone up there loves me to present such amazing things right in my path!
Mini-Gene Simmons (complete with platform boots), Mini Gaga, Mini Michael Jackson, Mini Britney, Mini Justin Beiber, and so many more. There must have been at least fourteen of them all decked out! The Dog and I realized that the end of the year was finally here.... |

Lily's been there for three weeks now and she doesn't seem to find Reno depressing. |

I'd love to hear a rant in "Boston Jive" - that's gotta be a highly amusing dialect! |

So here it is. New Year's Eve. After the pedi-cab trip to Circus-Circus, I decided to enter Harrah's New Year's Eve Texas Hold 'em tourney. $100 buy-in. No re-buys. I fold my first two hands with absolute junk. On the third hand, I get pocket snowmen (pair of 8s) and give a modest raise on the deal. I only have one taker. The flop comes out 8, 5, 2 rainbow. After another modest bet, the other guy goes all in. I call, knowing that I've got the best hand on the board and that I'd be soon to doubling my stack early in the game. We turn over our cards and he's got 7-J unsuited. I'm feeling really confident until the turn comes and it's a 9 and the river... yup you guessed it 10. Totally disgusted that this jackwad not only went all in on crap but caught runner/runner to an inside straight to put me out, I start heading back to Cal-Neva where Lily is trying to turn her craps luck around.
On the way out the door, I hear a commotion coming from the slots near the escalators, so I sidle over there to see what the hub-bub is and what do I discover? My good friend Penny is over there tussling with three security guards. Apparently she got an early start on her New Year's Eve drinking and is totally plowed. She's wearing a slinky little dress and six inch heels that make her look like she was just "working". The guards are trying to escort her out, but she's hollering at the top of her lungs "But these are MY machines! I'M HOT, HOT PENNY!" I can see she's trying to produce some identification to prove she is, indeed, Penny and that these are her machines. My early departure from the poker tournament forgotten, I immediately head to Cal-Neva's craps tables to report this incident to Lily. |

Love the report, Dog, but it looks like I messed things up again when adjusting my clocks for the time change last month. Seriously messed things up. Instead of setting them back by one hour, I set them back by about four days. Missed Christmas, New Years Eve, Pat's birthday and four days at work. They didn't even miss me at work. From now on, I'm hiring someone to make the daylight adjustment.
Thanks again for the fun report. Please give Penny my regards. |
