I spent one night at Boomtown on Tues. and one night at the Tahoe Biltmore. I got to Boomtown about 4:30 PM and checked out the casino. To my joy- I found the bank that still had full pay deuces wild. They also had 8/5 bonus poker with a three way progressive bartops with some nice brews. I was set. They also were giving away $500 between 7 and 8 PM. $100 each 15 minutes- all you had to do was playing a machine. My name was called...yea I was handed a $100 bill. I did well at the deuces and then not so good on the bonus poker, but it looks like I won about $40 plus the $100 drawing.

Wed. morning I stopped at the Gold Ranch to get in on the $1.99 breakfast special. I played about 10 hands of video poker to keep my account active and cashed out enough profit to pay for my breakfast and the tip.

The Biltmore gave me $30 in free play + another $10 in their mystery free play deal. I also was able to cash in $75 from my cash back from a few trips. They were having a hot seat promotion across the street at the Crystal Bay Club from 1-7 PM. I would cross the street 5 minutes before the drawing and put some money in a machine--- nickels and play slow. I did that three times and did not win. By the fourth time the staff was on to me and gave "the look". I decided enough of that. I did not come back.

The Biltmore rooms are a dump. I got my room and dropped off my bag and found it was really cold in there. I opened the window to try to warm it up..... low 50's outside. There is a thermostat in the room but it is not functional. They control the heat in the place (steam heat) and they had not turned on the heat yet. I came back to the room about 11:30 PM and it was still really cold in the room. They had just a thin blanket on the bed so I looked for an extra blanket.....no such thing. So I put on two shirts and used the bedspread..... no shower for me. It was a cold night.

I had a $20 coupon for the nice eating place- Conrads. They closed it that night so my coupon was no good. The coffee shop closed early too. I asked the bartender about eating , and he said he had some mini corn dogs and mozzarella strips...yuck. So I walked over to the Nugget and got a $1.50 Nathan hot dog....I was looking forward to have some of their great lamb chops at the Biltmore, so a big let down.

I did pretty well in the casino. I hit a set of deuces and quite a few 4 of a kinds. When I got home I found I was up $400 ~ $450 overall. Not bad.

Before I drove home I had the breakfast special at the Crystal Bay club. $3.33 and $1.00 more for organic coffee....it was really good. That was my most expensive meal for the entire trip!!

I stopped on my way home at apple hill on Hwy 50 and picked up a box of apples and a warm apple pie...yum.

Good to have a winning trip for a change.

Sounds like a great time. Anytime you can come home a winner is a fantastic trip in my book.

Cheapo is good! Running across the road once an hour sounds like something I used to do. (First thing after breakfast in downtown Reno, back in the day, I'd run around town collecting all the free fun-books and free-spins I could.)

Glad you made a profit in the casino. After spending the night in a cold room with a thin blanket, I'd say you deserved it. I had a look at the Biltmore's homepage and it looks kinda scary. (Probably because I just watched a scary movie on TV with an old mansion as the main location.)

The Biltmore! My favorite of the stateline-low-rollers ...talk about cheapo charm. Quaint and low-budget...and boy, yes, those rooms are from a different era. It's kinda cool how the elevator goes right from the casino floor up to the rooms, and how the lobby-check in has this bar that always seems barely in business. And the "Nice" restaurant was closed, and the coffee shop closed early? Gadzooks, what's a gambler to do?
And then those little casinos right across the street, not to mention that oddball Cal-Neva place...is that thing still lurching along??
I don't know why such a low-roller area would hold such charm, but it does.
Were there table games operating? Last time I was there, an entire area in the back that had been machines was just closed off, apparently not even worth the effort of supplying electricity and security.
Great job, especially taking home those winnings!
